Elevate Your Brunch Game

If you’re looking for a great new brunch spot then let me introduce you to Amis Trattoria in Washington Square. The restaurant is a Roman style trattoria and specializes in “bright, seasonal antipasti, renowned pastas and practicing the art of whole-animal cookery.”

Their Brunch is available on Sundays and the new menu includes a wide array of sweet and savory offerings broken up into Antipasti, Secondi, and Dolci, keeping with the Romanesque theme of the regular menu. There is also a huge selection of cocktails like the spicy Bloody Mary Fra’ Diavolo and the Ugo, which is made with prosecco, elderflower, lemon and mint.

Here is what I loved:

Antipasti

Start off with the Bufala Mozzarella with berries and granola. These large slices of delicately salted mozzarella paired excellently with the contrasting sweetness of the fresh fruit and granola. A great way to open up your appetite for the rest of the meal.

Next, go with the Bufala Ricotta bruschetta with charred ramps. Ramps are actually a type of wild onion that are only available certain times of the year and are usually foraged for like truffles, so they are definitely a rare treat. The ricotta was seasoned and topped with the ramps which you then spread over their perfectly toasted bread.

Do yourself a favor and order the Avocado Toast. Whether you like it or not, Avocado Toast is a brunch staple these days so there is no surprise that it is also found on the menu at Amis. However, you will be pleasantly surprised by this version of the classic. The avocado has a silky smooth consistency with the ideal amount of seasoning and is topped with a soft boiled egg. It's really unclear how they are able to capture so much flavor in such a simple thing but this Avocado Toast was life changing!

Secondi

You can't go wrong with The Carbonara. This dish is done right and their house-made spaghetti is key. The perfectly cooked pancetta also adds a very pleasant taste and texture to the dish.

The Baked Eggs with spring onion ragu is also very impressive. They are able to achieve so many complex flavors in such a subtle looking entree, and the freshly toasted bread they serve on the side almost begs to be dipped into the runny egg yolks.

Dolci

Always leave room for the sweet stuff. The Focaccia French Toast with maple butter is fluffy and delicate and has just the right amount of syrup. This will definitely be a crowd pleaser.

Finally, save the best for last and end your meal with the Salted Butter Semifreddo with toasted hazelnuts. This was one of the best things on the menu. Simply Delicious
